As the name suggests, our department offers an undergraduate degree programme that integrates in a unique way the core concepts underpinning both chemical/process engineering and materials engineering.

Our BE (Hons) degree equips graduates to establish themselves in a huge range of careers that include the energy sector, alternative energy options, minerals and metals, forestry, the food and dairy industries, environmental engineering, water and pollution treatment, waste minimisation, biotechnologies and nanomaterials, to name just a few.

The department also has a strong international reputation for the quality of its research activities, offering doctoral and masters opportunities in research fields as diverse as process control, biofuels, energy storage, separation processes, nano-membranes, catalysis, surface engineering, high performance coatings, light metal alloys, nanomaterials, fracture mechanics, ceramics and biomaterials.

We invite you to explore the profiles of the departmental staff and their respective research fields and make contact with us.
