Andrea Loh
Current Position:2009-present
Simulation Engineer, Honeywell Process Solutions, Honeywell Brisbane
Job Description:
Honeywell Process Solutions delivers leading-edge automation and control solutions, equipment and services to their clients, who come from many industries including refining, oil and gas, pulp, paper and printing, power generation, chemicals, life sciences, and minerals, metals and mining.
As part of the simulations team, Andrea is involved in creating models to reproduce the processes, equipment, and control systems of a real life processing plant to develop operator training simulators, similar in concept to flight simulators. Plant operators can then use these simulators to practice running the plant in emergency situations or just day-to-day controlling, and can also use them to test out new processing conditions or control systems without disrupting the actual plant.

Current Position:2006-present
Graduate Production Engineer, New Zealand Steel, Auckland
Job Description:
Engineer in the BlueScope Steel New Professionals Program. I have spent the last 18 months as a graduate in the Metal Coating Line, which produces hot dip galvanised or Zincalume® coil. This involves dealing with quality or process related problems as they arise, as well as tackling long term quality and business improvement projects. Each person in the department is assigned part of the plant to look after process-wise. The department is the connection between operations and maintenance – highlighting and following up on breakdowns in the line that can affect product quality, and getting the right people to fix the problems. We are also the first port of call for quality issues that arise from customers (or the Key Account Manager for the customer).
Within the next month I will be moving to a Production Engineering job in the Coil Coating Line, which paints Metal Coated coils in various colours, mainly for roofing purposes.
Previous Positions (Summer Work):
- Nov 05 – Feb 06: Internship at Carter Holt Harvey Tasman, Kawerau
- Nov 06 – Feb 07: Internship at New Zealand Steel

Colin Henderson
Current Position:2009-present
Process Engineer, New Zealand Steel, Auckland
Engineer in the BlueScope Steel New Professionals Program.
Working as a process engineer in the ‘Process Engineering and Energy’ department involves:
- Developing and implementing energy saving projects through optimising process efficiencies.
- Solving process related problems as they arise by locating the cause through measuring process conditions, ensuring equipment is and remains at design standard and reviewing standard operating procedure and confirming that they were followed.
- Energy management – consumption monitoring of natural gas, electricity and other utilities.
This has allowed me to work in various plants across the company, including the Multi Hearth Furnace and Melters in the Iron Plant, Re-Heat Furnace, Annealing Furnace and the Acid Regeneration Plant in the Rolling Mills.

Amelia Rentzios
Current Position:2006-present
Product Development Engineer, L'Oreal USA, Corporate Office, New York, New York
Engineer in the L'Oreal Explorer Graduate Program. First rotation - Global Industrial Development Team. Involves project management of new product launches, translating marketing briefs/ideas into an engineering project involving R&D, Manufacturing, Logistics and Purchasing. Liason between marketing and manufacturing, and finally packaging development.

Naida Suprapto
Current Position:2006-present
Process Engineer, AWT New Zealand Ltd
Established in 1998, AWT New Zealand is a specialist firm of Consulting Engineers providing tailored solutions to client’s water supply, stormwater, wastewater, and trade waste issues. As part of the Process Engineering Team at AWT, Naida has been involved in:
- Process design and optimisation of treatment plants and land disposal schemes
- Design reviews
- Cost evaluations
- Operation of laboratory scale activated sludge and anaerobic digestion plants
- Resource consent application and compilation of Assessment of Environmental Effects
- Public consultation
- Project coordination
Having a Chemical and Materials Engineering degree gave me a strong foundation to be involved in both the mechanical and process aspects of each project, hence allowing for a more integrative approach and involvement within the team. The Design paper offered in Year 3 and 4 definitely provided a useful base for project coordination and technical (mechanical) assistance whilst the other Chemmat courses provided me with a very good platform for more in depth technical involvement. Work is incredibly fulfilling!
